I recently visited Portsmouth to see HMS Queen Elizabeth. I was struck whilst walking between Gunwharf Quays and the Naval Base by the contrast between the luxury apartments at the former and the rather ramshackle ones en route. So much so that I decided upon a project to highlight the contrasts within "high-rise living. I suppose the horror of Grenfell Tower was still in my mind.
Back in Southampton working on my South Coast _ Cruising Project I caught a shot of a departing cruise liner and contemplated why people should be prepared to pay so much to "enjoy" high rise living in such large numbers and at such a density. many cruise liners are now so much larger and have the appearance of large blocks of flats.
